Lagoa is a small portuguese locality with a population of 20,000 that belongs to the district of Faro, in the Portuguese Algarve. It is well known for it's extensive golden sand beaches, and for it's amount of apartments, houses and hotels that provide accomodation for tourists' holidays. Lagoa is an ideal holiday destination if you are looking for sunshine in the beaches of Praia Grande, Praia do Carvalho or Praia Nova. There are also cultural tours that visit the Iglesia Matriz do Lagoa (church), or the Convent of Nuestra Señora do Carmo.
Lagoa has many beautiful beaches as well as all types of accomodations ranging from hotels, hostels, apartments, country homes, houses, etc. Yet this is not the only appeal, as it has great golf courses, and natural heritage like the beaches of Praia do Carneiros or Praia do Carvoeiro. Lagoa is also well known for it's wines that are exported throughout the country. Long ago it was it's main source of income along with fishing, and now it's a great compliment to the income that tourism brings.

The urban center in Lagoa has an approximate population of 7000, although the outskirts like Carboeiro have a population of 3000, Estombar has 5000, Ferragudo had 2000, Parchal 4000, and Porches has 2000. |
